What information is on a swing tag?

Swing tags, also known as hang tags, are small cards that provide extra information about the product they are attached to. The information included on the tag depends on the product. Commonly included are brand names, logos, company taglines, product care information, nutritional facts, instructions for use, warning information, manufacturing information, price, barcodes, and certifications. Swing tags for clothing often include material lists, washing instructions, branding information, designer names, and prices. Swing tags can include any information that you think is necessary or helpful for consumers.

What are hang tags?

Hang tags are small cards, often made of paper, that are hung from products as a place for extra information and branding. Hang tags are attached to products with string. They typically include important product information like size, ingredients, and product care, and give space for additional branding including logos, images, and colors. Hang tags come in a wide range of sizes and can have unique additional elements like tassels or metal eyelets.

What material are hang tags made of?

Hang tags can be made from a wide range of materials. The most common options are paper or plastic. Paper materials offer a large variety of different color and texture options for hang tags. They can be made to match the aesthetics and branding of any product or brand. Paper hang tags are also more eco-friendly since they can be easily recycled once the customer buys the product. Greenerprinter offers many sustainable paper options when you create custom hang tags with us. Plastic can be used to create more durable tags but it is not as sustainable as paper.

What size hole punch is used for hang tags?

The most common sizes for hole punches in hang tags are 5/32 inch, 3/16 inch, 1/4 inch, and 5/16 inch. The larger hole sizes are better for larger cards with thicker strings. However, hole punches can be done in any size. If you would like to order a hang tag with a drilled hole size that is different than the ones listed, please request a custom quote.

How do you attach hang tags?

Hang tags can be attached in infinite ways. Each product offers a variety of unique ways to attach hang tags. On clothing, hang tags can be added via safety pins or tagging guns. They are typically attached to seams in the fabric. On other products, hang tags are often tied to thin areas. This works well on bottlenecks, handles, spouts, etc. As long as the string can fully wrap around the product, a hang tag can be tied on. We offer hang tags with elastic string to make attachments easier. We also offer re-attachable hang tags that can make switching out tags or removing tags super easy.

How do you attach hang tags to clothing?

There are a few different methods that can be used to attach hang tags to clothing:

  1. Use a tagging gun to attach the hang tag through the cloth itself. This severely limits the type of material you can use for stringing and can cause damage to the fabric. The hang tags should be placed in seams or inconspicuous spots in case tearing occurs.
  2. Tie the hang tag string through a looped cloth tag on the garment. Some clothing items may have a permanent cloth tag sewn in to show the item’s size and care instructions. If this is a looped tag, the string of the tag can be fed through the loop and secured. This reduces the chance of any damage to the product, but can be a time-consuming process.
  3. Use a hang tag with a safety pin to attach it to the fabric. Greenerprinter offers custom hang tags with added safety pins. These pins can be used to attach the tags to any type of fabric with minimal holes. They are extremely easy to remove without causing the fabric to tear. This is our recommended method.

Are clothing tags made of paper?

Most clothing tags are made from either paper or plastic. Paper tags are the more eco-friendly option because they are recyclable. When making your own custom clothing price tags with Greenerprinter, you get to choose from our wide variety of sustainable, recycled papers.

How big are hang tags?

Hang tags come in many different sizes. Here are the most common:

  • 2” x 3.5”
  • 2” x 2”
  • 3” x 3”
  • 2” x 4”
  • 1” x 3”
  • 2” x 3”

If you would like to order a hang tag with a size that is different than the ones listed, please request a custom quote.

How do you remove hang tags from clothing?

Hang tags with safety pins are easy to remove! Simply unlock the pin and slide it out of the fabric. With most fabrics, any remaining hole is small enough to likely disappear over time or with a little massaging.

If your hang tag is tied to the clothing or punched through the fabric, we recommend using scissors to cut the string and then sliding the tag out of the garment. Cutting the string reduces the chance of the tag getting caught and tearing the fabric.

Where should hang tags be placed?

Hang tags should be placed anywhere that they can be attached to your products. Hang tags are most often attached using string or wire. As long as the string can be tied around or passed through your product, a hang tag can be attached. Common spots include seams in fabric, bottlenecks, holes, spouts, and more.

How do you recycle hang tags?

Hang tags printed by Greenerprinter are extremely easy to recycle! Simply remove the string and any added metal elements, like eyelets, rings, or grommets, and then throw the remaining paper tag into your curbside recycling bin! The sustainable paper we use for our hang tags, including kraft hang tags, is 100% recyclable! Our soft touch coating will not affect the recyclability of the product.

What is the difference between knotted and looped hang tags?

Knotted hang tags have a string that is delivered to you pre-tied. The string is free to move and rotate around and through the hole. These hang tags can be slid over products to secure the tag to the product.

Looped hang tags have a string that is looped around (secured to) the hole. The ends of the string are left untied. They can be attached to products by threading the string through a hole or part of the product and tying a knot.

Wired hang tags are similar to looped hang tags, but they have a wire instead of a string. the wire is threaded through the tag’s hole and then twisted to secure it to the tag. The ends are left open so you can wrap it around a product.

Loop knotted hang tags combine the features of looped and knotted hang tags. The string is looped around the tag’s hole to secure it and the ends are tied together. This secures the tag in one spot on the string. The string can be slid over a product to secure the tag.
