Foil Printing FAQs

Can my product have foil printing on an uncoated stock or specialty stock?

Foil is available for all of our house stocks. Some specialty stocks might have a harder time accepting foil. If this is the case with your project, our prepress team will reach out to you to find a solution (either no foiling or picking a different stock).

Can I add foil to both sides of my product?

Unfortunately, we can only apply foil to one side of a sheet. Even with foil only on one side, foil  adds an impressive and elegant look to folders, hang tags, and invitations.

What colors of foil do you offer?

All of the colors! We keep a wide variety of colors in stock and can always order more if you have a specific color in need. Please ask our customer service team about what colors we have at the moment.

Can I add more than one color of foil one one product?

Yes. This process requires multiple dies and multiple passes. This will increase the cost of the design.

How do I specify where the foil goes on my print-ready file?

To specify where foils should go in your design follow these simple steps:

1. Create a new layer in your document.
2. Add your foil design as vector shapes in 100% magenta.
3. Export as PDF.

Can I add foil in addition to die cutting?

Of course! Using both foil and die cutting can create a beautiful and unique printed piece.

Can I add foil in addition to other coatings or laminates?

Unfortunately, we cannot add foil to our other coatings or laminates.

What is the minimum and maximum image size for my foil design?

Smaller designs will have better foil impressions. Because of this, we recommend sticking to foiled designs sized no larger than 5” x 8”. This is perfect for business cards and luxury hang tags. There is no minimum size. If any part of your design is too thin or small, our prepress team will reach out to explain any recommended changes needed to fix the issue.

Can you add foil to envelopes?

Yes, depending on the type of envelope you need. Please contact csr@greenerprinter.com to find out more about foiling on envelopes.

Can I add foil to the cover of my book?

Yes! Foil can be added to the covers of all of our books, including the hardcover ones.

What is the minimum line weight I can include in my foil design?

Ultra thin lines and small text can be hard to see or read when using foil. We recommend sticking to line weights over 0.25 pt and texts over 8 pt when creating foil designs.
