What does soft touch coating feel like?

Soft touch coating creates a luxurious feel that can be challenging to describe. Some say it feels like velvet or peach fuzz. It’s often described as feeling soft and buttery. Ordering one of our free sample kits is the perfect way to feel a physical example of our soft touch coating. This can be very helpful if you are trying to decide if a soft touch coating is right for your next product. Soft touch coating is amazing on menus, greeting cards, and business cards.

Can soft touch coating be written on?

Soft touch coating can be written on with pens and markers. Pencils will not show up well. This is important to consider when adding soft touch coating to postcards, invitations, and other cards that you may want to write on. We recommend ordering one of our sample kits to get a physical sample to test specific writing utensils.

Is soft touch coating waterproof?

Adding any coating, including our soft touch coating, can increase water resistance, but it doesn't mean that the product is now waterproof. Realistically, you have a few more seconds to wipe water away without it soaking into the paper and causing visible damage.

What is the largest size of product that you can add soft touch coating to?

The maximum size that we can add soft touch coating to is 19" x 25”, measured flat.

Will soft touch coating show fingerprints?

Our soft touch coating is fingerprint and scuff resistant. However, some fingerprints will likely be visible after handling soft touch coated products. They can be particularly visible on dark colors. We recommend creating a design with primarily light colors to reduce fingerprint visibility.

What products can have soft touch coating added to them?

All products that have a flat size of less than 19" x 25” can have soft touch coating added to them! This includes booklet covers. For questions about the possibility of adding soft touch coating to your specific project, please contact our customer support representatives.

Does soft touch coating make the paper thicker?

No! The added thickness from soft touch coating is virtually undetectable. The thickness would be about the same if a clear layer of ink was printed all over the paper.

Does soft touch coating affect the colors in my printed product?

Our soft touch coating is matte. This can cause printed colors to appear more muted and slightly darker than they appear in your design file. Consider ordering a hard proof to see how the coating will affect your colors before full production begins.

Is your soft touch coating latex and silicone free?

Yes! Our soft touch coating is water-based and will not affect the recyclability of the paper it is added to.

What color is soft touch coating?

Our soft touch coating is only available in frosty clear color. This allows any colors in your design to shine through. Any color can be printed on your product before we add the soft touch coating.
