What is the finest detail I should include in my printed design?

All of our printers can handle very fine details and small text, but we have some recommendations to make sure that your designs appear as intended:

  • Stick to fonts sized at 6pt or higher. This ensures that they will be legible and that no small details will be lost during printing.
  • Pick line weights of 0.25 and above. Lines at this thickness will not be lost during printing, even on the textured kraft paper used for our kraft paper hang tags or pocket folders.
  • Use bold or large text on rough or textured paper stocks. Rough paper stocks, like the ones frequently used on invitations or kraft stickers, can lose fine detail, so thicker lines and text are beneficial.
  • Fine details can be hard to see when printed in light colors on white paper. Choose contrasting colors to make your detailed designs stand out.
  • Use thick borders. Thin, detailed borders will make any unavoidable shifts in the printing and trimming process very obvious. Smaller products like business cards and hang tags will show uneven borders more. Choose designs with thick borders or no borders to reduce this issue.

Our prepress team will reach out to you before production starts if we see any detailed areas of your design that might cause issues during printing.
