What is a belly band in printing?

A belly band, also known as a packaging sleeve, is a strip of paper that encircles an entire product. Belly bands provide space for extra banding and information about a product. They can be used to hold items together, create extra security, and make products more visually appealing. They typically include the product name and company name, product care information, ingredients, warnings, usage instructions, company logo, and other information that the customer may need.

What is the difference between a belly band and a packaging sleeve?

The terms “belly band” and “packaging sleeve” can be used interchangeably to refer to strips of paper that wrap around a product. They can be applied to the product itself or a product’s box.

What are belly bands for invitations?

Belly bands are an exciting addition to any type of invitation. They are perfect for keeping multiple stationary items organized and together until they reach your guests. Invitation belly bands are typically used with wedding invitations, reception cards, and invitations with RSVP cards. They create an elegant look and cohesive final appearance to your invites. Consider picking a die cut or embossed belly band for a fun twist!

What is the best packaging for round products?

Creating packaging for round products can be challenging, but there is no need to stress with packaging sleeves! The flexible nature of paper packaging sleeves allows them to be easily wrapped around round products. Our soap packaging sleeves are perfect for round bars of soap. Our towel packaging sleeves fit snugly around the round shape of a rolled towel. We even offer packaging sleeves that can fit around round food containers!

What is a box sleeve?

A box sleeve is a belly band that is added to the exterior of a product’s box. It is a second layer of packaging that creates more space for branding and information. Box sleeves slide over a closed product box, making the unboxing experience more interesting. Consider creating a die cut sleeve that has a unique shape with cutouts to create even more visual interest for your sleeve design.

What are packaging dielines?

Packaging dielines are the outline of the flat, unfolded shape of your packaging box or sleeve. This line is used to trim your packaging into the desired flat shape after printing occurs. This shape can then be scored, folded, and glued to create your final product. Packaging dielines are needed for all die cut printed packaging. Please review our File Setup Checklist to learn more.

Why are paper sleeves a good packaging option?

Paper packaging sleeves are an excellent packaging choice for most products! They are fully customizable, so they can be made to fit any product and match any branding aesthetic. Additionally, they use less paper and ink than traditional packaging boxes, so they are a more affordable packaging option. Paper sleeves also offer many ways to increase sustainability. We can produce recyclable sleeves with eco stickers and compostable sleeves with an interlocking tab closure.

How do you measure packaging sleeves?

To measure your packaging sleeves we recommend cutting a strip of paper and wrapping it around your product. The slip of paper should fit snugly but still be able to slide on and off your product. Here are 6 simple steps to finding your perfect packaging sleeve dimensions:

  1. Obtain the object you’d like to put your packaging sleeve on.
  2. Decide on the height of your packaging sleeve. This measurement represents how thick your band will be. Do you want it to cover your entire box or only a small band in the middle?
  3. Cut a strip of paper to that height.
  4. Wrap the sheet of paper around your product and mark where the ends overlap. Make sure to firmly press on any corners to create creases in your sleeve.
  5. Record your measurements. Write down the height of your sleeve and how long it is. Also, write down the location of any creases or important features. We will need all of this information when creating your sleeve.
  6. Use these measurements to create a dieline for your sleeve. Make sure to add a small extra flap to create a space for the sleeve’s closure. Our closure options include sticky tape, eco-friendly stickers, interlocking tab and slot, and pre-glued.
